1000 metres in a Single Blow: HFCL's Optibend Unitube Mini Cable for FTTx Connectivity

HFCL took on a demanding FTTx requirement from a European customer to deliver a Unitube blown cable capable of reaching 1000 metres in an 8/5 mm microduct at 7 bar pressure. While the initial 24-fibre prototype showed promise, it fell short under real-world conditions. This led to a focused redesign. After 26 iterations and close collaboration with HTL Hosur, HFCL developed an optimized Optibend Unitube Mini Cable with a low-friction outer jacket, validated through rigorous testing, and proven to meet the customer’s performance expectations.

What is FTTx and how does it enhance broadband connectivity?

FTTx (Fiber-to-the-x) is a modern broadband network architecture that delivers high-speed internet via optical fiber directly to homes, businesses, or multi-dwelling units. By bringing fiber closer to the end user—through FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home), FTTB (Fiber-to-the-Building), FTTC (Fiber-to-the-Curb), or FTTP (Fiber-to-the-Premises)—it provides superior bandwidth, reduced latency, and reliable connectivity. HFCL’s FTTx solutions enable scalable, future-ready networks capable of supporting high-demand applications such as video streaming, cloud computing, IoT, and smart city initiatives, thereby bridging the digital divide and enhancing user experience across urban, suburban, and rural areas.

Which FTTx architectures does HFCL support?

HFCL supports a wide range of FTTx architectures tailored to diverse deployment scenarios, including FTTH, FTTB, FTTC, and FTTP. Our solutions feature Compact Fiber Units, Termination Boxes, Patch Cords, and modular components designed for ease of installation, maintenance, and network expansion. These architectures enable telecom operators to deliver stable, high-capacity broadband services in both densely populated urban areas and remote, hard-to-reach regions. By combining flexibility, reliability, and scalability, HFCL ensures operators can meet current and future broadband demands while maintaining operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Are HFCL’s FTTx solutions suitable for urban and rural deployments?

Yes. HFCL’s FTTx portfolio is engineered for deployment across both dense urban and sparsely populated rural environments. Compact, lightweight, and durable designs allow longer installation runs with minimal splicing, reducing installation cost and effort. Whether for multi-story buildings, residential complexes, or remote villages, HFCL’s FTTx systems provide efficient, scalable connectivity solutions. These solutions help telecom operators expand fiber networks effectively under national broadband initiatives, digital inclusion programs, and smart city projects, ensuring equitable access to high-speed internet and bridging the urban-rural digital divide.

How do HFCL’s FTTx solutions contribute to next-generation networks?

HFCL’s FTTx solutions are designed as the backbone of next-generation, high-speed fiber networks. By providing high-capacity, low-latency connectivity, they support seamless integration with 5G transport systems, broadband access networks, IoT infrastructure, and cloud-based applications. These solutions enable telecom operators and service providers to deliver smooth video streaming, enterprise connectivity, and smart city services while maintaining reliability and scalability. HFCL’s FTTx networks empower residential, enterprise, and government users with future-ready infrastructure that supports emerging technologies and high-performance applications, ensuring a robust foundation for the digital economy.
